Liverpool has some of the finest period terraced housing in the country, and rewiring it well takes a different touch to a modern semi. In the streets of Wavertree, Anfield, Woolton and Aigburth we regularly find lath-and-plaster walls, solid brick partitions, original cornicing and floors that need lifting with care, and sometimes legacy wiring in rubber, lead or early aluminium that is genuinely past safe use. A sympathetic rewire brings the electrics fully up to standard while protecting everything that makes the house special.
We plan cable routes to minimise damage, lifting and relaying floorboards rather than butchering them, feeding cables through voids and chasing only where we must. Where a full rewire is not necessary we will say so and do a careful partial rewire instead. Will rewiring ruin my period features?
No. We route cables through floor voids and existing paths, lift and relay floorboards carefully and chase only where necessary, so cornicing and original detail are protected.
My terrace has old rubber or lead wiring, is that dangerous?
Rubber, lead and early aluminium cabling degrades and is well past its safe life. It should be replaced. We will inspect it and advise honestly on what needs doing.
Can you do just part of the house?
Yes. If the whole property does not need renewing we carry out a sympathetic partial rewire of the older circuits, which is often the right answer for a well-kept period home.
